Shluffy James

Jaime likes to fall asleep being held across my body with his head resting on my arm, and his hand reaching up to touch my face. For a while he fiddles around - feeling my nose, chin, cheeks and mouth. Sometimes a finger goes up my nose, or he manages to shove his fingers in my mouth and grab at my teeth. Eventually, as he drifts into sleep, his hand just comes to rest on my lips. I kiss his palm 100 times softly, and he is dreaming. Sweet dreams my angel.

Stormy Weather

Tonight we are seeing one of the worst rain storms that I can ever remember. There has been a downpour since this morning, non-stop, with flash flood warnings across the valley. We spent the day at Grammy and Grandpa's house celebrating Uncle Dane's 30th birthday. Uncle Dane and Grammy made a delicious brunch from the Clinton Street Baking Company Cookbook - frittata, hash browns, biscuits and jam, and brookies (Francesca's favorite!)
We huddled in and ate, rested, and enjoyed spending the day together. Francesca put on an interpretive dance show about princesses and "pig dances". She alternatively wanted everyone's attention, and then didn't want anyone to look at her! Her flair for the dramatic continues to amuse and entertain all of us. I often wonder if she's going to be an actress.
Oh, and tonight when we got home, she made up a song while Brian played guitar for her and Jaime. It was so fun to hear her singing along to the tune as she went - creating in the moment so effortlessly! And Jaime loves to watch Brian play guitar - he gets perfectly calm and still, focused, and mesmerized by the strumming.
But the best part of the day happened in the car when we arrived back home. It was a treacherous car ride home in the storm. Both Brian and I were focused and tense, trying to make it home safely, and I was relieved to pull into our garage. I opened the backseat, ready to help Francesca put her shoes back on in order to walk up to our place. And there they were, Francesca and Jaime, both chilled out in their car seats, both wide awake, and holding hands. It was the sweetest thing I have ever seen, and I stalled for a moment to take it in. I asked Francesca if she just took Jaime's hand or if she was holding it the whole way, and she said "not the whole way, but for parts of the way".
So tonight, as it continues to storm outside while we are tucked in our cozy beds, I wish for this: that Francesca and Jaime's lives are filled with moments of connection like that, especially when no one is looking.

Francesca quotes that made my day

"Mommy, when am I going to be a woman?"

"Mommy, do I have a scrotum?"
No.
"Does Uncle Michael have a scrotum?"
Yes.
"Why?"

Francesca is the most fun little girl in the whole world to be with. I love spending time with her, and she makes me laugh and smile everyday. I love you princis!

Sweet Baby James

Just in case I am looking back one day and I think that I exaggerated how wonderful a baby Jaime is, I wanted to write this post. He is an angel. Jaime wakes up, lifts his head up, and smiles from ear to ear. That's how he starts the day. Then he spends the rest of the day playing, smiling, sleeping, and eating... as happy as could be. This morning, he stared out of the window at the leaves blowing in the wind for 10 minutes, perfectly calm, mesmerized and peaceful. He just blows me away everyday and I feel like the luckiest mommy in the world to have him in our family. Jaime reminds me to see the good, to appreciate the moment, and to relax into what is. Thank you Jaime, for choosing us. We love you.

Getting Started

Today is March 5th, 2011. We have been wanting to start this blog FOREVER, and we are finally siezing the day. Francesca is almost 3 and a half years old. Jaime turned 5 months old yesterday. We are moving at the end of this month into a new rental house. I have been growing my private OT practice, and Brian has been busy turning business around at Get Wired.
Times have been overwhelming, but we are also overwhelmingly blessed. The 4 of us, our "famlis"... there is nothing better in the whole world. We are committed to really seeing each other, knowing each other, and enjoying each other as we all grow. We wanted to start this blog so that one day, Francesca and Jaime can look back and read about our family days together - so that they can know how much we love them, how much joy they bring into our lives, and how much we learn from each other all the time.

A few things we mean to put in here that have happened in the last few years -

- Francesca's birth and first 3 years!
- our trip to hawaii with Francesca
- "Chocolate James Brown"
- Francesca asking why questions/ how come
- the eye finder
- Francesca meeting Jaime for the first time in the hospital

And so much more... life has been full and good :)
